From Letterboxes To Shelterboxes

Filming: Day 1

This morning I was up at 6am, to greet a ‘fresh’ temperature of 2°C. Why? Filming day! My mum Jenny, and best friend Chelsea (Film Director extraordinaire) also braved the early morning temperatures. We were off to meet Fred Fawke, local Rotarian and district representative for Shelterbox, who would be assisting us in explaining what Shelterbox IS – which would include a genuine Shelterbox!

We arrived 10 minutes early (an amazing feat for all three of us) to find Fred already sitting in his car with the Shelterbox loaded in the back! Just HAD to get a shot of it. Even in little ol’ Canberra, the boxes end up taking the most practical (and hilarious!) modes of transport.

We were blessed with beautiful, sunny (even warm!) weather and got all the filming done in less than 2 hours – including constructing the massive tent and unpacking all the contents of the box with detailed discussion of each item (Chelsea and I were having flashbacks to our days of camping and spear-fishing).

So now we go to stage 2 of the video – filming of how the fundraiser works. We’ll be editing  like crazy to have it ready before my departure – it will be all over the website, Facebook page and Twitter as soon it’s ready. Woo hoo!
BIG THANKS to Fred Fawke for providing the box and generously giving his time to demonstrate and explain the wonders of a Shelterbox. Also to Chelsea for talking sense into me (first time in front of a camera since High School) and always being happy to provide her precious spare time in helping me with the creative aspects of this fundraiser. Cheers also to Jenny, my Mum, for coming along as tent-builder #4.
